Who, What, When, Where, Why
... discovering clues to your family's past ...
Who were they?
What did they do?
When did it take place?
Where did it take place?
Why did it happen?
There are a number of different surnames in this family website, some links going back to the early 1700's. This is an ongoing project, concentrating on families and their history. (Some links under construction)
Thanks
I would like to thank the numerous people - particularly Nancy Summers, nee Ross, who took the time and effort to put all her family knowledge on paper. Much appreciated by her children.
(Nancy, right and below, with some of her 14 grandchildren)
Susan (Ross) Thomson who provided reams of history to refer to, and all others around the world who have helped with the information gathered here. (Jan, Ian, Evelyn, Robyn, Richard, George, Beryl, Alexander, Elaine, Jean and many more)

Click on a Surname and it will open the earliest record of that family.
Hopefully you can work your way through time to see how and where you
may fit into the picture.
Have added some trees, charts and timelines to refer to. The timelines have
historic events to indicate the period history which may be relevant.
Marriage as a starting point
... without the union, there would be no family ...
The marriage is a starting point for each family with a little history on that
family. This is ongoing project so new information will be added periodically.
A separate page for each family, where possible, the children will be linked to their family, and so on.

Note
If you click on any of the links listed on the left of the page, you will be taken to the earliest record of that particular family. As noted by Susan Thomson, some names may be interchangeable. The Gaelic for Donal, Donald and Daniel is Domhall. Many people were barely literate, and could not read or check what the Registrar may be writing down, which could lead to errors.
NoteThe letter S is sometimes written as F, such as Ross being written as Rofs.
Many ancestors died in skirmishes, wars, travels, tropical and
other diseases, etc.
