About this site

Welcome ...

Growing up with tales on family history, the when, the where and why the events happened that took people to the other side of the world when travel was difficult, dangerous and life changing adventure, made me curious to find out more.

Today we see people taking great risks to seek a better future for themselves and their family, it's part of what we are.

Most family history concentrates on the direct line ancestors without mentioning the rest of the family siblings and often follows the male line of ancestors with less emphasis on the female line. This site has the marriage as a starting point for each page and links to the children of that family if the history is available.

Years ago we moved to Aberdeen, a few years later, my mother, who was very knowledgeable regarding family history, said that some of our ancestors were from Aberdeen. Seeing that it was right on the doorstep, I become more interested in the history, who they were, and why they immigrated. I visited the addresses given in old census records, to get some idea of their life, imagining conditions at the time, visits to churches, cemeteries and graveyards proved a fascinating insight into the past.

As a member of Aberdeen & NE Scotland Family History Society, I'm able to do some research on the family history. This is a slow time consuming process of firstly, finding the data and then researching a particular query.

Some technical details

When I started this project, HTML was in it's infancy, before CSS. Initially HTML and some Perl scripts, now this site has evolved to include new developments in coding including changes in coding syntax. Currently updating the site to be more mobile friendly.

This project has been written from scratch, using open source code to keep abreast of developments in HTML/CSS/Javascript/etc.
It is still under construction and some links will not work.

There will be mistakes and errors. Please let me know if you have any information which may help in the development of this site.
